The 19th session of DDE EC was convened as a hybrid event at the DDE Secretariat in Kunshan, China, on 15-16 August.

Recently, the Geological Society of America (GSA) announced the list of recipients of the 2026 International Honorary Fellow Award. Academician Shen Shuzhong was successfully selected in recognition of his outstanding achievements and significant international influence in the fields of Permian stratigraphy, systematic paleontology, and major biological events. This award is limited to only two scholars worldwide each year.

In a breakthrough that could unlock one of Earth's most perplexing mysteries, Chinese and international scientists have, for the first time, identified numerous buried "lost continents"—fragments of Gondwana—from a deep-prospecting perspective, reconstructing the "Greater Gondwana" supercontinent. DDE and GeoGPT were part of the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) which is organised by the International Geoscience Education Organisation (IGEO https://www.igeoscied.org/). The first IESO took place in Daegu, South Korea, in 2007. Since then, it has been held annually, drawing over 200 students from more than 40 countries and regions each year.
